Section 1: Learn about your Enemy
Who is Iblis?
Iblis was from the Jinn. He was a
greater worshipper of Allah. He was made the leader of the Angels. They
say that there is not a place on earth where the Iblis had not done
Sajdah.
When Allah created Adam, Allah commanded the angels to bow before Adam. Iblis refused by saying that he was better than Adam - Iblis had pride inside his heart. He told Allah that I am better than Adam, you created Adam out of clay whilst I am created from smokeless fire!
Allah then banished Iblis from heaven. Iblis made a request to Allah to give him respite until the day of Judgement. Allah granted him this and Iblis promised that he would try his best to deceive and misguide mankind from the Path of Allah - Iblis became the enemy of mankind.
(Iblis) Shaytan a.k.a. Satan is the enemy of mankind. He is Iblees and is one of the jinn. We learn about Shaytan so that we can be aware of who he is and we can learn how to avoid him. What is the wisdom behind the creation of Shaytan? This wisdom includes the idea that struggling with Shaytan and his allies is an example of completing one’s servitude to Allah (SWT). For example, saying Audhubillah when we get an evil thought from Shaytan is a form of worship. The creation of Shaytan is a test and a manifestation of Allah’s complete power. We now appreciate the opposite more. We fear sin now because of Shaytan as Allah’s complete control and ownership is demonstrated. The creation of Shaytan is a manifestation of Allah’s complete wisdom and we should praise Allah for suppressing the Shaytan and showing His Patience.
We may be wondering what is the wisdom behind Iblees’s prolonged life?. Possible answers could include the fact that with Iblees present, it is harder for humans in this life. Therefore, the reward for doing good will be multiplied many times over. Additionally, with a prolonged life, Iblees will be able to accumulate many more sins over time. Considering this, the punishment for Iblees in the Hereafter will be greater and equal to the amount of sins he created. One more explanation on why Iblees has a prolonged life is due to Allah’s Justice. Iblees was very righteous and committed before he refused to bow down to Adam. Therefore, Allah (SWT) has prolonged Iblees’s life so that he is not able to have any leeway on the Day of Judgment (opinion of Ibn Taymiyyah). The story of Iblees refusing to bow down to Adam is a proof to show that jinn were created before humans. The Holy Quran says, “When we said to the Angels, ‘Bow down to Adam,’ they bowed down except Iblees. He was one of the jinn” (Translation of the Meaning of the Holy Quran, 18:50).
Ibn Taymiyyah held the opinion that Iblees is “the father” of all jinn just as Adam is the father of mankind. Furthermore, from all jinn is produced a qareen for every human. A qareen tries to seduce his subject by giving one evil thoughts or bad dreams. Even Rasoolullah (SAW) had a qareen as he told Aisha (ra) in Sahih Muslim. However, Rasoolullah (SAW) was protected from his qareen as his qareen helped him in doing good. The Holy Quran says, “If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) the Most Merciful, We appoint for him a Shaytan, to be an intimate companion to him” (Translation of the Meaning of the Holy Quran, 43:36).
Indeed, Shaytan is the enemy of mankind. “Verily, Shaytan is an enemy to you so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his adherents that they may become dwellers of the blazing Fire.” (Translation of the Meaning of the Holy Quran, 35:6). Iblees will never become Muslim. We must treat him as our enemy and not friend him. Shaytan will always try to deceive us as this is his ultimate goal. His promise can be found in the Holy Quran (Surat al-Araf, 7:16-17 & Surat al-Israa, 17:62-64). We must be aware of Shaytan at all times. We need to make sure that we never make Shaytan our enemy in public, yet he is our best friend in private. Shaytan tries to hurt us the most at the moment of death. If we cannot withstand Shaytan when he is not fully focused on us in our everyday life, then how do we expect to withstand him at our moment of death? Therefore, let us understand the evils of Shaytan and do our best to avoid him. We should always say Audhubillah when we receive an impure thought.
Section 2: What the Allah (Quran) Says about Shaytan
|
The holy Quran, the final Testament, gives us a comprehensive information about devil(shaitan or satan). As devil is the most ardent enemy of mankind, God almighty gives us detailed biography of Satan in the holy Koran so that we could understand, who is devil, what his mission, what his tactics and tricks, how does he hypnotize human to lead toward hell. First identity of devil is that he is the rebel and ungrateful to God(Allah in Arabic) Almighty. Prophet Abraham(Ibrahim) invited his father to accept the religion of Islam. [The Noble Quran 19:44] "O my father, do not worship the devil. The devil has rebelled against the Most Gracious. [The Noble Quran 2:34] When we said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam," they fell prostrate, except satan; he refused, was too arrogant, and a disbeliever. After God created Adam and his wife and placed them in paradise and He commanded them, [The Noble Quran 2:35] We said, "O Adam, live with your wife in Paradise, and eat therefrom generously, as you please, but do not approach this tree, lest you sin." But devil caused their eviction from the paradise. How devil bad enemy of mankind is! [The Noble Quran 2:36] But the devil duped them, and caused their eviction therefrom. We said, "Go down as enemies of one another. On Earth shall be your habitation and provision for awhile." |
|
|
[The Noble Quran 7:20] The devil whispered to them, in order to reveal their bodies, which were invisible to them. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you from this tree, except to prevent you from becoming angels, and from attaining eternal existence." [The Noble Quran 7:22] He thus duped them with lies. As soon as they tasted the tree, their bodies became visible to them, and they tried to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise. Their Lord called upon them: "Did I not enjoin you from that tree, and warn you that the devil is your most ardent enemy?" [The Noble Quran 7:27] O children of Adam, do not let the devil dupe you as he did when he caused the eviction of your parents from Paradise, and the removal of their garments to expose their bodies. He and his tribe see you, while you do not see them. We appoint the devils as companions of those who do not believe. Practicing sorcery(witchcraft) is a devilish work. [The Noble Quran 2:102] They pursued what the devils taught concerning Solomon’s kingdom. Solomon, however, was not a disbeliever, but the devils were disbelievers. They taught the people sorcery, and that which was sent down through the two angels of Babel, Haroot and Maroot. These two did not divulge such knowledge without pointing out: “This is a test. You shall not abuse such knowledge.” But the people used it in such evil schemes as the breaking up of marriages. They can never harm anyone against the will of God. They thus learn what hurts them, not what benefits them, and they know full well that whoever practices witchcraft will have no share in the Hereafter. Miserable indeed is what they sell their souls for, if they only knew. What devil teaches and promises us! [The Noble Quran 2:268] The devil promises you poverty and commands you to commit evil, while God promises you forgiveness from Him and grace. God is Bounteous, Omniscient. [The Noble Quran 5:90] O you who believe, intoxicants, and gambling, and the altars of idols, and the games of chance are abominations of the devil; you shall avoid them, that you may succeed. [The Noble Quran 5:91] The devil wants to provoke animosity and hatred among you through intoxicants and gambling, and to distract you from remembering God, and from observing the Contact Prayers (Salat). Will you then refrain? [The Noble Quran 17:61-64] When we said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam," they fell prostrate, except Satan. He said, "Shall I prostrate to one You created from mud?" He said, "Since You have honored him over me, if You respite me till the Day of Resurrection, I will possess all his descendants, except a few." He said, "Then go; you and those who follow you will end up in hell as your requital; an equitable requital. "You may entice them with your voice, and mobilize all your forces and all your men against them, and share in their money and children, and promise them. Anything the devil promises is no more than an illusion. Following forefathers’ religion without verification is a devilish work. [The Noble Quran 31:21] When they are told, "Follow these revelations of GOD," they say, "No, we follow only what we found our parents doing." What if the devil is leading them to the agony of Hell? [The Noble Quran 24:21] O you who believe, do not follow the steps of satan. Anyone who follows the steps of satan should know that he advocates evil and vice. If it were not for God's grace towards you, and His mercy, none of you would have been purified. But God purifies whomever He wills. GOD is Hearer, Knower. Devil creates fear to refrain us from struggling in the path of God. [The Noble Quran 3:175] It is the devil's system to instill fear into his subjects. Do not fear them and fear Me instead, if you are believers. What is the attitude whose friend becomes devil already? [The Noble Quran 4:38] They give money to charity only to show off, while disbelieving in GOD and the Last Day. If one's companion is the devil, that is the worst companion. Devil has no independent power. [The Noble Quran 4:76] Those who believe are fighting for the cause of God, while those who disbelieve are fighting for the cause of tyranny. Therefore, you shall fight the devil's allies; the devil's power is nil. What are those female gods which are worshipped by idol worshippers in their temples? [The Noble Quran 4:117] They even worship female gods besides Him; as a matter of fact, they only worship a rebellious devil. Devil is so bad enemy to us. God quotes devil’s sayings in the Quran. [The Noble Quran 4:119] "I will mislead them, I will entice them, I will command them to (forbid the eating of certain meats by) marking the ears of livestock, and I will command them to distort the creation of God." Anyone who accepts the devil as a lord, instead of God, has incurred a profound loss. [The Noble Quran 35:6] The devil is your enemy, so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be the dwellers of Hell. [The Noble Quran 43:62] Let not the devil repel you; he is your most ardent enemy. [The Noble Quran 2:208] O you who believe, you shall embrace total submission; do not follow the steps of devil, for he is your most ardent enemy. Devil’s promises are nothing but illusion. [The Noble Quran 4:120] He promises them and entices them; what the devil promises is no more than an illusion. Devil is the biggest hypnotizer. He hypnotizes people who follow him so much so that those misguided people thought that they are perfectly guided! [The Noble Quran 6:43] If only they implored when our test afflicted them! Instead, their hearts were hardened, and the devil adorned their works in their eyes. [The Noble Quran 7:30] Some He guided, while others are committed to straying. They have taken the devils as their masters, instead of God, yet they believe that they are guided. [The Noble Quran 16:63] By God, we have sent (messengers) to communities before you, but the devil adorned their works in their eyes. Consequently, he is now their lord, and they have incurred a painful retribution. Even world’s best scientist could be totally hypnotized by devil. [The Noble Quran 29:38] Similarly, 'Aad and Thamoud (were annihilated). This is made manifest to you through their ruins. The devil had adorned their works in their eyes, and had diverted them from the path, even though they had eyes. Devil could make us forgetful. But good news is that it could only be very temporarily. [The Noble Quran 6:68] If you see those who mock our revelations, you shall avoid them until they delve into another subject. If the devil causes you to forget, then, as soon as you remember, do not sit with such evil people. [The Noble Quran 12:42] He then said to the one to be saved "Remember me at your lord." Thus, the devil caused him to forget his Lord, and, consequently, he remained in prison a few more years. Devil creates and circulates fabricated stories to divert humans from the path of God. [The Noble Quran 6:112] We have permitted the enemies of every prophet - human and jinn devils - to inspire in each other fancy words, in order to deceive. Had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. You shall disregard them and their fabrications. [The Noble Quran 19:83] Do you not see how we unleash the devils upon the disbelievers to stir them up? We have to seek refuge in God and God will help us whenever devil whispers us. [The Noble Quran 7:200] When the devil whispers to you any whisper, seek refuge in God; He is Hearer, Omniscient. Devil can not hypnotize genuine servants of God. They can understand devil’s trick. [The Noble Quran 7:201] Those who are righteous, whenever the devil approaches them with an idea, they remember, whereupon they become seers. Devil also fears God almighty and he sees God's Invisible Soldiers [The Noble Quran 8:48] The devil had adorned their works in their eyes, and said, "You cannot be defeated by any people today," and "I will be fighting along with you." But as soon as the two armies faced each other, he turned back on his heels and fled, saying, "I disown you. I see what you do not see. I am afraid of God. God's retribution is awesome." Satan has no power to force us. He only can invite us to commit sinful deeds. Therefore we are responsible for our own bad/good works and not the devil. [The Noble Quran 14:22] And the devil will say, after the judgment had been issued, "God has promised you the truthful promise, and I promised you, but I broke my promise. I had no power over you; I simply invited you, and you accepted my invitation. Therefore, do not blame me, and blame only yourselves. My complaining cannot help you, nor can your complaining help me. I have disbelieved in your idolizing me. The transgressors have incurred a painful retribution." [The Noble Quran 19:68] By your Lord, we will certainly summon them, together with the devils, and will gather them around Hell, humiliated. [The Noble Quran 22:3] Among the people, there are those who argue about God without knowledge, and follow every rebellious devil. We must be careful on devil’s propaganda. God says. [The Noble Quran 17:53] Tell My servants to treat each other in the best possible manner, for the devil will always try to drive a wedge among them. Surely, the devil is man's most ardent enemy. Devil always interferes on righteous people’s works including prophets, messengers of God. But devil can not win over them. [The Noble Quran 22:52] We did not send before you any messenger, nor a prophet, without having the devil interfere in his wishes. God then nullifies what the devil has done. God perfects His revelations. God is Omniscient, Most Wise. To be protected from Satan we must remember and seek help from God Almighty. [The Noble Quran 23:97] Say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the whispers of the devils. [The Noble Quran 16:98] When you read the Quran, you shall seek refuge in God from satan the rejected. [The Noble Quran 41:36] When the devil whispers an idea to you, you shall seek refuge in God. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient. Anyone who disregards the messages of God almighty, He appoints invisible, devilish Companions who lead them toward hell. [The Noble Quran 43:36] Anyone who disregards the message of the Most Gracious, we appoint a devil to be his constant companion. [The Noble Quran 58:19] The devil has possessed them, and has caused them to disregard God's message. These are the party of the devil. Absolutely, the party of the devil are the losers. [The Noble Quran 59:16] They are like the devil: he says to the human being, "Disbelieve," then as soon as he disbelieves, he says, "I disown you. I fear God, Lord of the universe." Devil prohibits lawful things as well. [The Noble Quran 2:168] O people, eat from the earth's products all that are lawful and good, and do not follow the steps of devil; he is your most ardent enemy. In conclusion, devil is a rebel against God Almighty, devil is human’s worst enemy, devil is the worst hypnotizer, devil advices us to commit all sinful and vice acts, devil creates baseless rumors, devil tries to creates animosity among believers, devil can make us forgetful for the time being, devil creates hindrances for prophets, messengers and believers to propagate the truth, devil can see us but we can not see the devil directly, devil even can see God’s invisible solders. But good news is that devil has no independent power, all power belongs to God Almighty, devil can not harm us physically, devil can not force us to commit sins and final destiny of devil and his followers is hell. | |
Section 3: What Prophet Muhammad (saws) (Hadith) said about Shaytan
Shaitan's throne in the ocean
"Jabir reported: "I heard Allah's messenger as saying: "The throne of
Iblis (Satan's name) is upon the ocean and he sends detachments in order
to put people to trial and the most important figure in his eyes is the
one who is most notorious in sowing the seed of dissension.""
Shaitan scared of the AZAAN
1.582: Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "When the Adhan is pronounced Satan takes to his
heels and passes wind with noise during his flight in order not to hear
the Adhan. When the Adhan is completed he comes back and again takes to
his heels when the Iqama is pronounced and after its completion he
returns again till he whispers into the heart of the person (to divert
his attention from his prayer) and makes him remember things which he
does not recall to his mind before the prayer and that causes him to
forget how much he has prayed."
Abu Sufyan reported it on the authority of Jabir that he had heard the
apostle of Allah say: "When Satan hears the call to prayer, he runs
away to a distance like that of Rauha". Sulaiman said: "I asked him
about Rauha." He replied, "It is at a distance of 36 miles from
Medina."
SHAITAN eats and drinks with his LEFT HAND so dont do that!!
Ibn Umar reported Allah's messenger as saying, "When anyone of you
intends to eat (meal), he should eat with his right hand, and when he
(intends) to drink he should drink with his right hand, for the Satan
eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand."
When you sleep SHAITAN ties three knots to you!
2.243: Narrated Abu Huraira
Allah's Apostle said, "Satan puts three knots at the back of the head of
any of you if he is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales the
following words, 'The night is long, so stay asleep.' When one wakes up
and remembers Allah, one knot is undone; and when one performs ablution,
the second knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot is undone
and one gets up energetic with a good heart in the morning; otherwise
one gets up lazy and with a mischievous heart."
Shaitan URINATES in your ear if you miss FAJR salaah
2.245: Narrated 'Abdullah :
A person was mentioned before the Prophet and he was told that he had
kept on sleeping till morning and had not got up for the prayer. The
Prophet said, "Satan urinated in his ears."
Shaitan stays in your nose when you sleep so blow 3 times when you wake up
The Prophet said, "If anyone of you rouses from sleep and performs the
ablution, he should wash his nose by putting water in it and then
blowing it out thrice, because Satan has stayed in the upper part of his
nose all the night."
When babys are Born, SHAITAN pokes them!!
4.506: Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "When any human being is born. Satan touches him at
both sides of the body with his two fingers, except Jesus, the son of
Mary, whom Satan tried to touch but failed, for he touched the
placenta-cover instead."
At night SHAITAN spread out!!
Allah's Apostle said, "When night falls (or it is evening), keep your
children close to you for the devils spread out at that time. But when
an hour of the night elapses, you can let them free. Close the doors and
mention the Name of Allah, for Satan does not open a closed door."
Hadith Bukhari (4:509)
Number:509. Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "Yawning is from Satan and if anyone of you yawns, he
should check his yawning as much as possible, for if anyone of you (during
the act of yawning) should say: 'Ha', Satan will laugh at him."

Section 4: How to Protect yourself from Shaytan (Devil)
Section 5: Learn to Fight against your Enemy
1. Don't forget the power of Allah's Remembrance (Dhikr)!
It
is the most powerful of all the defences. Regular reading of prescribed
Du'as will develop your Taqwa (consciousness) and keep you mindful of
what thoughts you entertain. Ya Khabeeru (The One who is all-aware):
constant recitation will decrease your nafs
When a person says “Laa ilaaha illallahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa Huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in Qadeer (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise and He is Able to do all things).” 100 times a day.
“Whoever recites this one hundred times a day will have the reward of freeing ten slaves. One hundred Hasanat (rewards) will be written for him and one hundred misdeeds will be washed away. He will be shielded from Shaytan until the evening. No one will be able to present anything better than this except for someone who has recited more than this.” (Sahih Bukhari 4/95, Sahih Muslim 4/2071)
2. Remember your Accountability to Allah.
In
Islam, you're fully accountable as soon as you understand and feel such
temptations. Your eyes will testify about what you looked at on the Day
of Judgment.
3. Always walk with your gaze lowered.
But make
sure not to bump into a hydro post! Lowering the gaze does not mean that
you cannot have any 'eye contact' as you walk or during a conversation.
It means that you keep your eyes under control.
4. Take the Right Seat!
In
a public place (e.g. café), choose a seat that minimizes your
view-frame and avoid mixed-crowds. It is precisely about such
comfortable gazing at the attractive features of the passers-by that the
Prophet (SAW) advised 'Ali ibn Abi Talib: "Ali, do not let a second
look follow the first. The first look is allowed to you but not the
second." (Ahmad, Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi.)
5. Hangout with those known for noble character and modesty.
When
you are around good people, they can remind you to abstain from that
which Allah dislikes. As the Prophet (SAW) said, "A person is likely to
follow the faith of his friends, so be careful about who you make your
friend." (Ahmad.)
6. Avoid friends that are into immoral movies, music, dirty jokes etc.
Such
activities are the tools of Shaytan that promote the idea of 'love
based on looks' or 'love at first sight'. Such friends would take you
into an artificial world of fantasies and false hopes, away from
reality, before it's too late!
Therefore, either you help your
friends change through gentle advice, or abandon frequent contact with
them. As Allah warns us: "If anyone withdraws himself from Allah's
remembrance, Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one to be his
intimate companion."
[43: 36.]
7. Avoid visiting malls and parks alone.
Always
try to go out with a family member or a good friend, whose company may
help you avert your eyes from the objectionable billboards and
inappropriately clothed people. In summer, step out only when you have
to.
8. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CURRENTLY WATCH TV AND/ OR SURF THE INTERNET!
Surf
or Watch TV when others are around. The temptation to sneak a look at
dirty pictures is heightened when you're alone in your room watching TV
or surfing the Internet. Shaytan's primary target is always a lonely
person! Try to avoid late night TV and Internet surfing.
MAKE DUA TO ALLAH TO RID YOU OF THESE EVIL INDULGENCES!
9. Never have 'nothing to do'!
Shaytan
loves 'bored and idle' people. If you are feeling bored, do the dishes,
or take out the garbage, or read some book. Allah says, "Do not throw
yourself into destruction with your own hands." [2: 195.]
10. Volunteer for Islamic Organizations.
Your
Jihad against immorality in the society is one reason for you to join
Muslim youth groups in your community. Your involvement with such
activities, along with the love of helpful brothers or sisters
struggling for a good cause, will keep your mind, energies, and thoughts
focused away from the Haram.
11. Read, Read, and Read!
Yes,
read as many Islamic books and articles as possible. Reading keeps your
mind and eyes busy! It keeps you motivated to live your Islam and
strengthens your relationship with Allah.
12. Always remember that the beauty of this world is temporary and the life hereafter is everlasting.
13.
Observe voluntary fast to strengthen your willpower and to cool your
passions. The Prophet (SAW) strongly recommended the youth to make it a
habit.
14. If you are able and responsible then get married for
the sake of Allah. It may be one of the most effective, yet challenging,
defence mechanisms against such temptations.
15. For Brothers, remember your Mom and Sister.
Disgusting
right? Exactly! No sane person would look at his mom or sister the way
many of us examine the girls on TV shows or stare at our Muslim sisters
in social gatherings. This thought should sicken you enough to stop
Insha-Allah.
16. Remind yourself of the Death and Hereafter often.
"Remember often the terminator (or destroyer) of all the pleasures [i.e. death]," the Prophet (SAW) reminded us. (at-Tirmidhi.)
17. Increase your Good Actions.
Try
following the advice of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW): "Remain conscious
of Allah and fear Him wherever you are. And follow a bad deed with a
good deed which will wipe it out, and behave well towards people."
(at-Tirmidhi.)
18. Repent and Return to Allah.
Allah is
All-forgiving and loves those who return to Him, promising not to repeat
their sins. "Ask forgiveness from your Lord, then turn towards Him in
repentance; He will loosen the sky over you in abundance, and He will
add strength unto your strength." [11: 52].
Section 6: Learn about your Victory/Reward
Hardships Benefit the Believer
Allah has decreed that, in this life, hardships and disasters strike both believers and non-believers. For a non-believer, they are inconveniences that hinder him from proceeding with his normal involvement in the worldly life. For a believer, on the other hand, they are instances of rest and remembrance, tests that promise great rewards, and indications of atonement and expiation of sins. Regardless of how little is the harm that strikes a believer, it carries with it good news of forgiveness and elevated rank ( in Jannah ). The Righteous Predecessors used to be pleased when a hardship afflicted them, seeing it as a token of Allah's forgiveness and benevolence.
Expiations of Sins
Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that the Prophet said: " Hardships continue to befall a believing man and woman in their body, family, and property, until they meet Allah (S) burdened with no sins. " [Tirmithee]
Sign of Allah's Love
Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: " Whenever Allah wills good for a person, He subjects him to adversity" [Bukharee and others]
Sign of Eeman
Abu Hurayrah (RA) and Ka'b Bin Maalik (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: " The parable of a believer is that of a fresh and moist plant; the wind tilts it this way and that way; and so is the believer; he continues to be subject to affliction. And the parable of a hypocrite is that of a firm cedar tree; it does not shake - until it is uprooted all at once." [Bukharee and Muslim]
Sign of Righteousness
The prophets and righteous people are afflicted the most, and their rewards are the highest. Sa'd (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: " The most in their suffering among the people are the prophets, then the best, then the (next) best. One is afflicted in accordance with his deen (faith). If his deen is firm his affliction is hard, and if his deen is weak, his affliction is light. Indeed, one would be so much subjected to adversity until he walks among the people without any sins. " [Ahmad, Tirmithee]
Early Punishment
Anas (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: " When Allah wills good for a servant of His, He expedites his punishment in this life; and when He wills retribution for a servant of His, He holds his sins for Him to judge him by them on the Day of Resurrection." [Tirmithee]
Multiplication of Rewards
Anas (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: " The amount of reward is in accordance with the amount of suffering. When Allah (SWT) loves some people, He tries them (with affliction). He who then is content (with Allah's decree) has achieved the acceptance (of Allah), and he who is dissatisfied (with Allah's decree) will attain the anger (of Allah)." [Tirmithee]
Rewards for Sickness
One should not look to sickness as a gloomy episode, but should
remember the great good in it. It is one form of affliction with
which Allah (SWT) tests His 'ibaad (servants), giving them a
chance to acquire rewards, as was explained above, as is further
emphasized below.
Removal of Sins and Elevation in Ranks
Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: " Whenever a Muslim is afflicted by harm from sickness or other matters, Allah will drop his sins because of that, like a tree drops its leaves." [Bukharee and Muslim]
Abu Sa'eed al-Khudree (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: "A Muslim is not afflicted by hardship, sickness, sadness, worry, harm, or depression - even if pricked by a thorn, but Allah expiates his sins because of that. " [Bukharee and Muslim]
Sa'eed said, " I was with Salmaan (RA) when he visited a sick man in Kindah ( in Persia ), and he said to him: " Expect good because Allah (SWT) makes a believers sickness an expiation (for his sins) and a period of rest. However, when a disbeliever falls sick, he is like a camel whose owner ties it then lets it loose - it does not understand why it was tied nor why it was freed." [Bukharee]
'Aishah (RA) narrated that once some pain afflicted the Prophet (SAW) causing him to suffer and turn about in his bed. she said: "Had one of us done this, you would have blamed him." He (SAW) replied: " An ailment is intensified for the righteous. whenever a believer is afflicted by a hardship, whether it is a thorn or more, a sin is taken off from him because of it, and he is elevated by one rank (in Jannah). " [Ahmad]
Retaining Rewards for Deeds Before Sickness
Usually, when a believer falls sick, he would not be able to do the same amount of good (prayer, fasting, helping Muslims etc) that he used to do when he was well. But Allah out of His great mercy, continues to record for him the good deeds that he was forced to stop because of his sickness. Abu Moosa Al-Ash'aree narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: " For a traveling or sick person, his deeds will be recorded in accordance with what he used to do when he was resident or well." [Bukharee]
'Abdullah Bin 'Amr reported that the Prophet said: "No (believing) person gets sick, but (his deeds) will be recorded for him in accordance with what he used to do when he was well." [Bukharee] Anas (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: " No Muslims body is afflicted by Allah, but He will record (his deeds) foe him in accordance with what he used to do when he was well - as long as he is sick. Thus, if He takes his life, He forgives him; and if He cures him, He washes him (from sins)." [Bukharee]
'Uqbah Bin 'Aamir reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: "Each
days deeds are sealed with it. thus, when a believer gets sick,
the angels say, " Our lord! Your servant such and such, You
have restrained him (from doing good this day)." And the lord
replies, " Seal his day in accordance with his (usual) deeds,
until he is cured or dies". [Ahmad]
Reason for the Reward
'Atta Bin Rabaah reported that Ibn 'Abbaas (RA) told him, "Do you want to see a woman from the people of Jannah (paradise)?" He said "Yes". He said: " It is this black woman. She came to the Prophet (SAW) saying, " I have (epileptic) seizures, and I get exposed, so supplicate to Allah for me." He (SAW) said: " If you wish, be patient and you will attain Jannah; or if you wish, I will ask Allah to cure you." She replied, " I will be patient ! But my body gets exposed (because of the fall), so supplicate to Allah for me that I do not become exposed." and he (SAW) did." [Bukharee and Muslim]
The scholars have differed in opinion as to whether a sick person will be rewarded for the sickness itself or for being patient during it. the correct opinion is that if he is patient and submits to Allah's will, as in the above hadeeth, he would be rewarded for both the submission and the sickness, otherwise, he would not be rewarded at all; because he resented Allah's decree. This is what should be understood from Ibn hajar al-'Asqalaanees words: "The authentic hadeeths are clear in that the rewards are recorded once affliction strikes a Muslim. As for patience and acceptance, they are virtues for which a person may get additional rewards over those for the affliction." 'Abdullah Bin 'Amr reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: "If a Muslim is pricked by (as little as) a thorn in the worldly life, and he seeks its reward from Allah, some of his sins will be removed, because of it, on the Day of Judgement."[Bukharee]
"True believers are only those whose hearts are filled with awe whenever God is mentioned, and whose faith is strengthened whenever His revelations are recited to them. In their Lord do they place their trust." (Chapter 8: Verse 2)

Section 7: FAQ about Iblees, Shaytaan
Section 8: Difference between Jinn and Shaytan
The jinn are among the creatures that Allah (swt) created. The jinn race was created from fire.
"And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind." (Quran 15:27)
They have intellect, freedom and power to choose between right and wrong. These characteristics suit the need for them to worship God.
"I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me." (Quran 51:56)
They are being hold responsible for all their actions like humans do in the Judgement Day.
"On that Day no question will be asked of man or Jinn as to his sin." (Quran 55:39)
The jinn with sins are going to be placed in Hell.
He will say: "Enter ye in the company of the peoples who passed away before you - men and jinns, - into the Fire." (Quran 7:38)
Satan on the other hand is the enemy to mankind.
"Said (the father): "My (dear) little son! relate not thy vision to thy brothers, lest they concoct a plot against thee: for Satan is to man an avowed enemy!" (Quran 12:5)
Satan are consisted of both men and jinns.
"Likewise did We make for every Messenger an enemy,- evil ones among men and jinns, inspiring each other with flowery discourses by way of deception. If thy Lord had so planned, they would not have done it: so leave them and their inventions alone." (Quran 6:112)
Yes, both can posses people.
"Those who devour usury will not stand except as stand one whom the Evil one by his touch Hath driven to madness..."
(Quran 2:275)
Iblis is a jinn and satan both at the same time.
"But Satan whispered evil to him: he said, "O Adam! shall I lead thee to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that never decays?"
(Quran 20:120)
""Bow down to Adam": They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns..."
(Quran 18:50)

Question 1: Who are the jinn?
The jinn are among the creatures that Allah (swt) created. Allah (swt) created angels, jinn, mankind, animals, plants and others. Jinn have some qualities like human beings. These qualities are intellect, discrimination, freedom, and the power to choose between right and wrong, between true and false, as well as between good and bad.
Question 2: When did Allah (swt) create the jinn?
Allah (swt) created the jinn before Adam (pbuh) was created. Both were created in heaven and lived in paradise. One may read in Surah Al-Hijr (The Rocky Tract) [Qur'an, 15:26-27]. However, nothing was mentioned about the duration of time of the jinn’s creation before Adam (pbuh).
Question 3: What are jinn created from?
Jinn are created from fire of hot wind [Qur'an, 15:27]; and from smokeless fire [Qur'an, 55:15]. They were originally made from fire and then molded and shaped in the form and shape that Allah (swt) wanted them to be. This means that they do not anymore possess their fiery nature. It is not known therefore, their final shape, form, and chemical composition. Since we cannot see them, therefore, it is not easy to do any analysis of their chemical nature. In contrast, mankind was created from soil, mud, and clay. They were molded as human beings. Our final form is no more mud or clay.
Question 4: Do jinn have bodies?
Yes and no! It depends upon the information that one has. One group of scholars believe that jinn do not have bodies of their own. They also do not inhabit bodies of other creatures. However, they do exist independently by themselves. Therefore, they do not know how they exist without bodies: smoke, flame, fire or what?
The other group of scholars do believe that jinn do have bodies either definite or subtle. If their bodies are definite then they have some density; otherwise, if they are subtle, then they are so fine that our weak eyes cannot see them. One may read Surah Al-A’raf (The Heights) [Qur'an, 7:27]. Even if they are subtle they should have weight and density similar to that of the air itself.
Question 5: Do jinn die?
Yes. Jinn do die. As long as they are creatures created by Allah (swt), they should die. They are creatures that marry, produce children, eat, drink, and die like all other creatures in the universe. One may read Qur’an Surah Al-Rahman (The Most Merciful) [Qur'an, 55:26-28].
Question 6: Do the jinn feel envy of us?
Yes. There are two types of evil eye: human and the jinn. One has to read regularly ‘A’oozu Billahi Minash-shaitanir Rajeem. Also, by reading Ayah Al-Kursi and Al-Mu’awwazatain, one will be protected from the evil eyes of both the jinn and mankind.
Question 7: Are there messengers and prophets from within the community of jinn?
Yes. Allah (swt) has sent prophets and messengers to jinn from within the jinn community. Also, Allah (swt) sent Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to mankind, to jinn, and to other creatures. In Surah Al-An’am (The Cattle), Allah (swt) explains that He sent messengers to men and to jinn. See Qur’an [6:130].
Question 8: Do jinn have different religions, sects and denominations?
In Surah Al-Jinn (Ch. 72), Allah (swt) informs us that some jinn accepted Islam, while others refused. Those who refused have deviated, and developed for themselves different methods, different ways of life, and different religions, sects and denominations.
Question 9: Do jinn marry and have children?
Yes. Jinn do marry and they do have children. The way they marry is not known to us yet. We may be able to know the future if Allah (swt) wants us to know.
People never knew about microbes, viruses, and the unseen micro creatures. Now we are able to know many things about their life cycles, their life duration, their methods of duplication or reproduction: sexually and asexually. The mere fact that we do not know how the jinn marry and reproduce does not negate their being married and reproduced. The Qur’an stipulates in Surah Al-Kahf (18:50) that they have offsprings. Similarly, the Qur’an states in Surah Al-Rahman (55:56) that jinn and human beings never touched (married) the ladies of paradise.
Question 10: Can human beings and jinn inter-marry?
Yes and no. It depends upon how one looks at it. It is a known fact in the Qur’an in Surah Al-Israa’ (17:64) that jinn may share with us our wealth and our children. The Hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) reconfirms this concept when he says that when a man has marital relationship with his wife, he should mention the name of Allah (swt). He should seek refuge in Allah (swt) from the outcast shaitan. Otherwise, shaitan folds himself up in the man’s urethra and shall have sexual relations along with him.
Moreover, when a man goes to his wife while she is in her menses, shaitan precedes him. She will conceive and will bring forth a sterile person (Mukhannath). Such a sterile person is considered to be child of the jinn.
Question 11: Do jinn have animals as pets?
Yes. Jinn do have animals or beasts of their own. The Prophet (pbuh) mentioned that every piece of dung is fodder for the beasts of the jinn. However, we do not know what type of beasts the jinn have. The same thing is to be said as to the varieties of beasts, their number, their shape, their size, their weight and so on.
Question 12: Do jinn have homes of their own?
Yes. The jinn do have homes. They live all over the planet earth. However, there are special places that one may find them in abundance and on a regular basis. These are deserts, ruins, places of impurities such as dunghills, bathrooms and graveyards. They live in houses of human beings too. For those who enter their houses mentioning the name of Allah (swt), the jinn cannot have a place to stay overnight in that house. If the people of the house mention the name of Allah (swt) before eating, then the shaitan will not be able to eat with them.
Question 13: Is it true that animals see jinn and angels?
Yes. Animals do see angels and shaitan. When a rooster sees an angel, it starts crowing. However, when a donkey starts braying it is seeing a jinn.
Jinn
According to Quran and Sunnah
WWW.MUTTAQUN.COM
The Different
Types
Book - "The World of the Jinn and Devils",
p. 7
Ibn Abdul Barr said, "The jinn, according to
the scholars of the language, are of different types:
-
If one is mentioning the jinn purely of themselves, the are called jinni.*
-
If one is mentioning the jinn that live among mankind, they are called aamar whose plural is amaar.
-
If one is mentioning the ones that antagonize the young, they are called arwaah.
-
If one is mentioning the evil ones that antagonize humans they are called shaitan for the singular [and shayateen for plural].
-
If they cause even more harm and become strong, they are called afreet."**
*Notice the similar sound between jinni and english's "genie". TV and other media have twisted the concept of jinn; however, it is interesting to note its origin is from Islam. "I Dream of Jeannie" is a TV show based around a Genie (jinni, plural of jinn). In this show, Jeannie, the genie, frequently was given a request and the requestor never quite got what was requested as she was always creating unintentional mischief. However we understand that the shaitan among the jinn antagonize humans, not that they are kind beings who accidentally mess up on occasion. Those who seek aid (such as asking for favors or making request) from the jinni will find deception and a twisted type of aid that doesn't really meet the requestor's original request, but that satisfies the shaytaanic jinn's desire for evil.
**An Ifrît (strong) from the jinns said: "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place (council). And verily, I am indeed strong, and trustworthy for such work." [The Noble Qur'an 27:39]
Narration - Reported by al-Tahhaawi in Mushkil
al-Athaar, 4/95, and by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, 22/214
Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani said: “The
Messenger of Allaah
said: ‘The jinn are of
three types: a types that has wings, and they fly through the air; a type
that looks like snakes and dogs; and a type that stops for a rest then resumes
its journey.” [Shaykh al-Albaani
said in al-Mishkaat (2/1206, no. 4148): al-Tahhaawi and Abu’l-Shaykh
reported it with a saheeh isnaad]
The Origin of the Jinn
The jinn are NOT fallen angels. They
were created from a smokeless flame of fire. The first recorded jinn
to be disobedient is Iblis. Disbelieving, disobedient
jinn and humans are known as shayateen (satans).
The Noble Qur'an - Ar-Rahmaan 55:15,
15
He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery.
And the jinns did He create from a smokeless flame of fire.
The Noble Qur'an - Al-Hijr 15:26-42
26. And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.
27. And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire.
28. And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.
29. "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him."
30. So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together.
31. Except Iblîs (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators.
32. (Allâh) said: "O Iblîs (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?"
33. [Iblîs (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud."
34. (Allâh) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajîm (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsîr At-Tabarî]
35. "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)."
36. [Iblîs (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected."
37. Allâh said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved,
38. "Till the Day of the time appointed."
39. [Iblîs (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all.
40. "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them."
41. (Allâh) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me."
42. "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghâwîn (Mushrikûn and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.).
Solomon's Experience with the Jinn
Allah made all the jinn subservient to the
Prophet Sulaimaan (Solomon), a gift from Allah, swt, that will never
be granted to another after him.
The Noble Qur'an - Saad
38:35-39
35. He said: "My Lord! Forgive me, and bestow
upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any
other after me: Verily, You are the Bestower."
36. So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed,
37. And also the Shayâtin (devils) from the jinns (including) every kind of builder and diver,
38. And also others bound in fetters.
39. [Saying of Allâh to Sulaimân (Solomon)]: "This is Our gift, so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked."
The Noble Qur'an - Saba' 34:12-14
12. And to Solomon (We subjected) the wind, its morning (stride from sunrise till midnoon) was a month's (journey), and its afternoon (stride from the midday decline of the sun to sunset) was a month's (journey i.e. in one day he could travel two months' journey). And We caused a fount of (molten) brass to flow for him, and there were jinns that worked in front of him, by the Leave of his Lord, and whosoever of them turned aside from Our Command, We shall cause him to taste of the torment of the blazing Fire.
13. They worked for him what he desired, (making) high rooms, images, basins as large as reservoirs, and (cooking) cauldrons fixed (in their places). "Work you, O family of Dâwud (David), with thanks!" But few of My slaves are grateful.
14. Then when We decreed death for him [Sulaimân (Solomon)], nothing informed them (jinns) of his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his stick, so when he fell down, the jinns saw clearly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have stayed in the humiliating torment.
The Noble Qur'an - An-Naml
27:17-19
17. And there were gathered before Sulaimân (Solomon) his hosts of jinns and men, and birds, and they all were set in battle order (marching forwards).
18. Till, when they came to the valley of the ants, one of the ants said: "O ants! Enter your dwellings, lest Sulaimân (Solomon) and his hosts crush you, while they perceive not."
19. So he [Sulaimân (Solomon)] smiled, amused at her speech[] and said: "My Lord! Inspire and bestow upon me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favours which You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds that will please You, and admit me by Your Mercy among Your righteous slaves."
Every human has a partner Jinn
Hadith - Sahih Muslim 6757, Narrated
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, similar narration 6759 by 'Aisha, r.a.
Allah's Apostle
said: There is none amongst
you with whom is not an attache from amongst the jinn (devil). They
(the Companions) said: Allah's Apostle

Yes, but Allah
helps me against him and so I am safe from his hand and he does not command
me but for good.

More About the Jinn
Hadith - Sahih Bukhari 4:533, Narrated
Jabi bin 'Abdullah
The Prophet
said, "Cover your utensils
and tie your water skins, and close your doors and keep your children close
to you at night, as the Jinns spread out at such time and snatch things away.
When you go to bed, put out your lights, for the mischief-doer (i.e. the
rat) may drag away the wick of the candle and burn the dwellers of the
house." Ata said, "The devils." (instead of the Jinns).
Hadith - Sunan of Abu Dawood, Narrated
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri
Muhammad ibn AbuYahya said that his father
told that he and his companion went to AbuSa'id al-Khudri to pay a sick visit
to him. He said: Then we came out from him and met a companion of ours who
wanted to go to him. We went ahead and sat in the mosque. He then came back
and told us that he heard AbuSa'id al-Khudri say: The Apostle of Allah
said:

three times. If it return (after that), he should kill it, for it is a
devil.
Hadith - Al-Muwatta
54.33
...The snake stirred on the end of the spear

Allah will fill Hell with jinns and men all together
The Noble Qur'an - As-Saaffaat
37:158
And they have invented a kinship between Him

Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts).
The Noble Qur'an - Huud

The Noble Qur'an - Al-An'aam 6:130,
131
O you assembly of jinns and mankind! "Did not
there come to you Messengers from amongst you, reciting unto you My Verses
and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say: "We
bear witness against ourselves." It was the life of this world that deceived
them. And they will bear witness against themselves that they were
disbelievers.
This is because your Lord would not destroy the (populations of) towns for their wrongdoing (i.e. associating others in worship along with Allâh) while their people were unaware (so the Messengers were sent).
The Noble Qur'an - Al-A'raaf
7:179
And surely, We have created many of the jinns

are the heedless ones.
Fortune-tellers/Soothsayers
Hadith - Al-Bukhari 7.657, Narrated 'Aisha,

Some people asked Allah's Apostle (saaws) about
the foretellers. He said. -They are nothing." They said, -O Allah's Apostle!
Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true." Allah's Apostle

Hadith - Tirmidhi #861, Narrated Jabir ibn
Abdullah, Tirmidhi reported and said: This is a gharib
hadith.
Allah's Messenger
came out to his companions and recited Surah ar-Rahman (55) from the beginning
to the end, but they remained silent. Thereupon he said:
I recited this before
the Jinn on the night of Jinn, and their response was better than that of
yours. When I came to these words: `Then which of the favours of your Lord
do you deny?' They said: Our Lord, there is nothing that we deny of Thy favour;
to Thee is praise due.
The Noble Qur'an - Al-Jinn 72:1-14
-
Say (O Muhammad
): "It has been revealed to me that a group (from
three to ten in number) of jinns listened (to this Qur'ân). They said:
'Verily! We have heard a wonderful Recital (this Qur'ân)!
-
'It guides to the Right Path, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord (Allâh).
-
'And exalted be the Majesty of our Lord, He has taken neither a wife, nor a son (or offspring or children).
-
'And that the foolish among us [i.e. Iblîs (Satan) or the polytheists amongst the jinns] used to utter against Allâh that which was wrong and not right.
-
'And verily, we thought that men and jinns would not utter a lie against Allâh.
-
'And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the masculine among the jinns, but they (jinns) increased them (mankind) in sin and disbelief.
-
'And they thought as you thought, that Allâh will not send any Messenger (to mankind or jinns).
-
'And we have sought to reach the heaven; but found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires.
-
'And verily, we used to sit there in stations, to (steal) a hearing, but any who listens now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.
-
'And we know not whether evil is intended for those on earth, or whether their Lord intends for them a Right Path.
-
'There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary; we are groups each having a different way (religious sect, etc.).
-
'And we think that we cannot escape (from the punishment of) Allâh in the earth, nor can we escape (from the punishment) by flight.
-
'And indeed when we heard the Guidance (this Qur'ân), we believed therein (Islâmic Monotheism), and whosoever believes in his Lord shall have no fear, either of a decrease in the reward of his good deeds or an increase in punishment for his sins.
-
'And of us some are Muslims (who have submitted to Allâh, after listening to this Qur'ân), and of us some are Al-Qâsitûn (disbelievers those who have deviated from the Right Path)'. And whosoever has embraced Islâm (i.e. has become a Muslim by submitting to Allâh), then such have sought the Right Path."
Shaytaan
The shaytaan (satan) can be human or
jinn...
The Noble Qur'an - Al-An'aam
6:112
And so We have appointed for every Prophet
enemies - Shayâtin (devils) among mankind and jinns, inspiring one
another with adorned speech as a delusion (or by way of deception). If your
Lord had so willed, they would not have done it, so leave them alone with
their fabrications.
Know your enemy...
The Noble Qur'an - Faatir
35:6
Surely, Shaitân (Satan) is an

Hizb (followers) that they may become the dwellers of the blazing
Fire.
The Noble Qur'an - Az-Zukhruf
43:62
And let not Shaitân (Satan) hinder you
(from the right religion, i.e. Islâmic Monotheism), Verily, he (Satan)
to you is a plain enemy.
Shaitaan tells you to fear people instead of
Allah, swt...
The Noble Qur'an - Az-Zukhruf
43:62
It is only Shaitân (Satan) that suggests
to you the fear of his Auliyâ' [supporters
and friends (polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh and
in His Messenger, Muhammad
)], so fear them not, but fear Me, if you are (true)
believers.
The jinn's power is to Whisper/Deceive
The Noble Qur'an - An-Naas
114
1. Say: "I seek refuge with (Allâh) the Lord of mankind,
2. "The King of mankind,
3. "The Ilâh (God) of mankind,
4. "From the evil of the whisperer (devil who whispers evil in the hearts of men) who withdraws (from his whispering in one's heart after one remembers Allâh),
5. "Who whispers in the breasts of mankind,
6. "Of jinns and men."
The Noble Qur'an - Al-An'aam
6:128
And on the Day when He will gather them (all)
together (and say): "O you assembly of jinns! Many did you mislead
of men," ...
The Noble Qur'an - Al-'Anaam
6:112
And so We have appointed for every Prophet
enemies - Shayâtin (devils) among mankind and jinns, inspiring one
another with adorned speech as a delusion (or by way of
deception)....
The Noble Qur'an - An-Nahl
16:99-100
Verily! He has no power over those who believe
and put their trust only in their Lord (Allâh).
His power is only over those who obey and follow him (Satan), and those who join partners with Him (Allâh) [i.e. those who are Mushrikûn - polytheists - see Verse 6:121].
The Noble Qur'an - Ibrahiim
14:22
And Shaitân (Satan) will say when the
matter has been decided: "Verily, Allâh promised you a promise of truth.
And I too promised you, but I betrayed you. I had no authority over you
except that I called you, so you responded to me. So blame me not, but
blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can you help me. I deny your former
act in associating me (Satan) as a partner with Allâh (by obeying me
in the life of the world). Verily, there is a painful torment for the
Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)."
The Noble Qur'an - Al-Israa'
17:61-65
And (remember) when We said to the angels:
"Prostrate unto Adam." They prostrated except Iblîs (Satan).
He said: "Shall I prostrate to one whom You created from clay?"
[Iblîs (Satan)] said: "See? This one whom You have honoured above me, if You give me respite (keep me alive) to the Day of Resurrection, I will surely seize and mislead his offspring (by sending them astray) all but a few!"
(Allâh) said: "Go, and whosoever of them follows you, surely! Hell will be the recompense of you (all) an ample recompense.
"And Istafziz [literally means: befool them gradually] those whom you can among them with your voice (i.e. songs, music, and any other call for Allâh's disobedience), make assaults on them with your cavalry and your infantry, mutually share with them wealth and children (by tempting them to earn money by illegal ways usury, etc., or by committing illegal sexual intercourse, etc.), and make promises to them." But Satan promises them nothing but deceit.
"Verily! My slaves (i.e the true believers of Islâmic Monotheism), you have no authority over them. And All-Sufficient is your Lord as a Guardian."
Supplication for one afflicted by whisperings in prayer or recitation...
Hadith - Sahih Muslim 5463, Narrated
Uthman ibn Abul'As, r.a.
Uthman came to Allah's Messenger
and said: Allah's Messenger, the Satan intervenes
between me and my prayer and my reciting of the Qur'an and he confounds me.
Thereupon Allah's Messenger
said: That is (the doing of
the Satan) who is known as Khinzab, and when you perceive its effect, seek
refuge with Allah from it and spit* three times to your left. I did
that and Allah dispelled that from me.
* this is a dry spit in the air
Seeking refuge IN the Jinn
The Noble Qur'an - Al-Jinn 72:
6-7
6. 'And verily, there were men among mankind
who took shelter with the masculine among the jinns, but they (jinns) increased
them (mankind) in sin and disbelief.
7. 'And they thought as you thought, that Allâh will not send any Messenger (to mankind or jinns).
The Noble Qur'an - Ibrahiim
14:22
And Shaitân (Satan) will say when the
matter has been decided: "Verily, Allâh promised you a promise of truth.
And I too promised you, but I betrayed
you. I had no authority over you except that I called you, so
you responded to me. So blame me not, but blame yourselves. I cannot help
you, nor can you help me. I deny your former act in associating me (Satan)
as a partner with Allâh (by obeying me in the life of the world). Verily,
there is a painful torment for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and
wrong-doers, etc.)."
The Noble Qur'an - Al-An'aam
6:100-102
100. Yet, they join the jinns as partners in
worship with Allâh, though He has created them (the jinns), and they
attribute falsely without knowledge sons and daughters to Him. Be He Glorified
and Exalted above (all) that they attribute to Him.
101. He is the Originator of the heavens and the earth. How can He have children when He has no wife? He created all things and He is the All-Knower of everything.
102. Such is Allâh, your Lord! Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Creator of all things. So worship Him (Alone), and He is the Wakîl (Trustee, Disposer of affairs, Guardian, etc.) over all things.
The Noble Qur'an - Al-An'aam
6:128
And on the Day when He will gather them (all)
together (and say): "O you assembly of jinns! Many did you mislead of men,"
and their Auliyâ' (friends and helpers, etc.)
amongst men will say: "Our Lord! We benefited one from the other, but now
we have reached our appointed term which You did appoint for
us." He will say: "The Fire be your dwellingplace,
you will dwell therein forever, except as Allâh may will. Certainly
your Lord is AllWise, AllKnowing."
Seeking Refuge FROM the Evil Jinn
Say " 'audhu billah" (I seek refuge in Allah)
and other dhikr (remembrance of Allah, swt) when the evil whisper
of Shaitaan comes upon you, such as
-
when becoming angry,
-
having confusing or disobedient thoughts,
-
when approached by arrogants who dispute the Truth of the ayats of Allah, swt,
-
when about to recite Qur'an,
-
or when in any situation that Quran and Sunnah teaches you is a result of the shaitaan.
The Noble Qur'an - Fussilat
41:36
And if an evil whisper from Shaitân (Satan)
tries to turn you away (O Muhammad SAW) (from doing good, etc.), then seek
refuge in Allâh. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.
The Noble Qur'an - Al-A'raaf 7:200,
201
And if an evil whisper comes to you from
Shaitân (Satan) then seek refuge with Allâh. Verily, He is
All-Hearer, All-Knower.
Verily, those who are Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2), when an evil thought comes to them from Shaitân (Satan), they remember (Allâh), and (indeed) they then see (aright).
The Noble Qur'an - Ghaafir
40:56
Verily, those who dispute about the Ayât
(proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh,
without any authority having come to them, there is nothing else in their
breasts except pride [to accept you (Muhammad SAW) as a Messenger of Allâh
and to obey you]. They will never have it (i.e. Prophethood which Allâh
has bestowed upon you). So seek refuge in Allâh (O Muhammad SAW from
the arrogants). Verily, it is He Who is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.
The Noble Qur'an - An-Nahl
16:98
So when you want to recite the Qur'ân,
seek refuge with Allâh from Shaitân (Satan), the outcast (the
cursed one).
Hadith - Al-Muwatta 51.10
Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya ibn
Said said, "When the Messenger of Allah
was taken on the Night Journey, he saw an evil jinn
seeking him with a torch of fire. Whenever the Messenger of Allah
turned, he saw him. Jibril said to him, 'Shall
I teach you some words to say? When you say them, his torch will be put out
and will fall from him.' The Messenger of Allah
said, 'Yes, indeed.'
Jibril said, 'Say, 'I seek refuge with the Noble Face of Allah and with the
complete words of Allah which neither the good person nor the corrupt can
exceed, from the evil of what descends from the sky and the evil of what
ascends in it, and from the evil of what is created in the earth and the
evil of what comes out of it, and from the trials of the night and day, and
from the visitations of the night and day, except for one that knocks with
good, O Merciful!" "'
Say Bismillah and then the du'a below before entering
the toilet area...
Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi 358, Narrated Ali
ibn Abu Talib
Allah's Messenger
said: The screen between the
eyes of Jinn and the private parts of the sons of Adam as one of them enters
the privy is that he should say: In the name of Allah.
[This
hadith has been transmitted by Tirmidhi and he said: It is a gharib hadith
and its isnad is not sound.]
[Bismillahi] Allahumma inna 'audhu bika minal khubthi wal khabaa'ith.
[By the Name of Allah]. Oh Allah, I seek protection in You from unclean spirits, male and female. [Abu Dawud 4/264, Ahmad 2/389]
The ayat "Al-Kursi" (2:255) is well-known
as a means for repelling mischievious jinn...
The Noble Qur'an - Al-Baqara
2:255
Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right
to be worshipped but He), the Ever, Living, the One Who sustains and protects
all that exists. neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To
Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who
is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows
what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen
to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His
Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi extends over
the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving
them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great
(Ayat-ul-Kursi).
Hadith - Tirmidhi #2173, Narrated Jubayr ibn
Nufayr [Darimi transmitted
it in mursal form].
Allah's Messenger
said, "Allah finished Surat al-Baqarah with two verses
which I have been given from His treasure which is under the Throne; so learn
them and teach them to your womenfolk, for they are a blessing, a means of
a approach (to Allah) and a supplication."
Ibn Taimiya, Majmu, vol. 19, p. 55
"The numerous people who have experienced these events
all confirm the amazing effectiveness of this verse in warding off jinn and
breaking their spells. It [editor's note: ayat al-Kursi] has a great
effect in repelling devils from humans, from the possessed and from those
picked out by jinn, such as wrongdoers, people with bad tempers, those who
follow their desires and lusts, musicians and those who become ecstatic through
whistling and clapping. If these verses are read over them with sincerity
to Allah, the jinn will leave. It will put an end to the mirages created
by the jinn. It will also disclose the falseness of those, the brothers
of the jinn, who perform miraculous acts. The jinn inspire their devotees
with some knowledge that the ignorant think are miracles that Allah grants
His pious servants. In fact, they are simply Shaytaan's acts of deception
over his devotees, of those whom have earned Allah's wrath and those who
have gone astray."
Hadith - Tirmidhi #2145, Narrated An-Nu'man
ibn Bashir
Allah's Messenger
said, "Two thousand years before creating the heavens
and the Earth, Allah inscribed a book of which He sent down two verses with
which He concluded surat al-Baqarah. The Devil will not come near a house
in which they are recited three nights."
[Tirmidhi and Darimi transmitted it, Tirmidhi
saying this is a gharib tradition.]
Make du'a (supplication) such as the
following:
The Noble Qur'an - Al-Baqarah
2:286
Allâh burdens not a person beyond his
scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished
for that (evil) which he has earned. "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget
or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You
did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us
a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us
Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maulâ (Patron, Supporter
and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people."
Recite Surahs Al-Falaq (Chapter 113) and
An-Nas (Chapter 114)..
Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi 1019, Narrated Abu
Sa'id al-Khudri
The Prophet
used to seek protection against the Jinn and the
evil eye till surahs al-Falaq and an-Nas were revealed. After they were revealed
he stuck to them and discarded everything beside them.
[Transmitted
by Tirmidhi]
Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi 4563, Narrated Abu
Sa'id al-Khudri
Allah's Messenger
used to seek refuge in Allah from jinn and the evil
eye in men till the Mu'awwidhatan came down, after which he made use of them
and abandoned everything else.
[Tirmidhi
and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a hasan gharib
tradition]
